Dr. Starr, a passionate educator of young children, has the experience and skills to engage your child and assist him/her to become… a better reader, a stronger writer, and/or a more confident mathematician.
Reading
Whether your child requires remedial help or enrichment, your child will receive a customized approach based on their needs and learning style.
For emergent and struggling readers, the focus is on skill development; phonemic awareness; decoding/encoding; comprehension and fluency.
Enrichment students delve into different genres of literature, while concentrating on refining their reading skills. This includes understanding inference, making predictions, recognizing cause and effect, and developing the ability to compare and contrast.
All students receive explicit instruction, immediate feedback and the encouragement they need to succeed.
Mathematics
Since all children already have some understanding of mathematics, each student will be informally screened to assess their knowledge of numbers and math concepts. An individualized plan is then developed and the appropriate resources are used to help your child engage in math and feel proud of their successes.
Writing Skills
The youngest child can use a crayon to scribble… that’s the beginning of writing. As each student grows older, new skills are acquired and eventually, required. Developmentally appropriate activities are introduced after an informal appraisal and writing is included in the individualized plan of every child whether they are being tutored for math or reading.

Coaching Students Pre-K Through Grade 4 for Standardized Tests
Dr. Starr provides test preparation for students to maximize their potential through her knowledge of New York State and local assessments for both Public and Private schools.

Initial Fee: $140.00 (includes informal screening)
Hourly Fee: $100.00
Package: $879.00 (includes 10 hour long sessions and the initial fee)
Place: Meet in your home or in your local library.
Cancellation: 24 hour notice required
